As a member of the Japan-US Training Exchange Program for English Language Teachers (JUSTE), I am in the teacher training course provided by Intensive English Orientation Program (IEOP) at Iowa State University.

In Japan from April 2013 on, the new "Course of Study" will be implemented. As for English education in Japanese high school, even bigger focus will be put on communicative competence rather than grammar and structural aspect. The biggest issue for high school English teachers in Japan is how we teach English in English.

After studying TESL methodology in Iowa State University, a group of 14 Japanese teachers of English is expected to handle these issues by facilitating students' communication competence as well as grammar knowledge back in Japan.
