Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards
The Statistics Club and the Department of Statistics participate
in several programs that recognize scholarship and contributions to the
Club, Department, College and University. Below are brief descriptions
of each of the scholarships and/or awards.
- Statistics Department/Eli Lilly Company Scholarship
Selection is based on academic excellence and demonstrated potential
for success in statistics. Students must plan to major as a
freshman in statistics. The individual selected will be chosen on
the basis of admissions information (completion of the admission
process and submission of class rank, enhanced ACT composite score
and enhanced ACT test scores in English, Mathematics, Reading and
Scientific Reasoning. The corresponding SAT test scores can be used
in place of the enhanced ACT scores) in comparison with other
freshmen planning to major in statistics. A letter of reference
from a secondary school mathematics teacher is required as well as a
letter from the applicant. Both letters should be sent to Professor
Dean L. Isaacson, Head, Department of Statistics, 102 Snedecor Hall,
Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011-1210.
- Statistics Club Award ($200)
The award recognizes an
undergraduate statistics major who has contributed to the Statistics
Club and the Department of Statistics while demonstrating academic
achievement and scholarship. The recipient shall be a junior or
senior majoring in statistics. The recipient shall have at least 12
credits in statistics. The recipient shall have an overall G.P.A.
of at least 2.5/4.0 and a statistics G.P.A. of at least 3.0/4.0.
The recipient shall be an active member of the Statistics
Club.
- George W. Snedecor Undergraduate Statistics Award ($200)
The award recognizes an undergraduate statistics major who has
demonstrated superior academic achievement and scholarship. The
recipient shall be a junior or senior majoring in statistics. The
recipient shall have at least 12 credit hours in statistics, including
a minimum of 9 credits at 300+ level. The recipient shall have a
G.P.A. of at least 3.0/4.0 overall and a statistics G.P.A of at least
3.5/4.0.
- Schillmoeller Family Scholarship in Statistics ($500)
The scholarship shall be open to undergraduate statistics majors
with an overall G.P.A of at least 3.2/4.0 and with demonstrated
financial need.
- Scott Kongable Undergraduate Statistics Scholarship
($600)
The scholarship is open to sophomores and
juniors majoring in statistics. The student shall have at least
9 credits of statistics classes by the end of Spring semester with
an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.0/4.0 and a statistics G.P.A. of at
least 3.25/4.0. Scholarship recipients must take 12 or more credits
both semesters of the next academic year. Selection is based on
G.P.A., extra-curricular activities and an interview.
- Undergraduate Scholarship Sponsored by Procter and Gamble,
Inc. ($1000)
The scholarship is open to sophomores and juniors
majoring in statistics. The student shall have completed MATH 165,
166 and 265 and at least 8 credits in statistics courses. The
scholarship recognizes early academic achievement in the major of
statistics.
- Max Boehm Scholarship (Full in-state tuition)
The scholarship is open to all undergraduates, who are sophomores,
juniors or seniors, majoring in statistics, who have financial need
and are from challenging family backgrounds, representing a unique
situation that might have prevented the recipient from considering
a college education at Iowa State University. The student must have,
and maintain, a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5/4.0 to receive the award.
In order to apply for any or all awards print off and fill out an
Award Information Sheet and return
it to Denise in 320 Snedecor.
The Statistics Department Scholarship Committee meets in April
to review applications and make awards for the following academic
year.
