file /home/wqmeeker/stat528/grading.policy Grading Policy for Statistics 528 Final averages for Statistics 528 are obtained by averaging grades from examinations, projects, and and lab assignments using the following weights: Examination 1 1/7 Examination 2 1/7 Examination 3 1/7 Final examination 2/7 Lab assignments 1/7 Projects 1/7 There will be no makeup examinations for Examinations 1-3. If a student misses one of these examinations, for any reason, the needed 1/7 will be obtained from the final examination grade. Students who receive the grade "check" for all laboratory assignments will receive 100 percent for this part of the course grade. Laboratories turned in late but before on-time laboratories are returned to students will be marked "check-L" and lose 25% credit. Laboratories that are turned in after the on-time laboratory assignments have been returned will receive the grade "check-LL" and receive only 50% credit. Late laboratory assignments may not be reviewed carefully. It is still, however, always much better to turn in a late assignment than no assignment at all. Students are permitted to turn in one late laboratory assignment without any penalty, but this late laboratory assignment must be submitted before the on-time laboratory assignments are returned to the other students. Guaranteed minimum final course grades will based on the following scale: >= 94 A >= 90 A- >= 87 B+ >= 83 B >= 80 B- >= 77 C+ >= 73 C >= 70 C- It is possible that higher grades could be assigned than those shown above. Students who are just below a cutoff may have their grade raised to the next level, depending on their performance on extra homework assignments (those beyond the standard laboratory assignments). There are no pre-fixed proportions of grades that I will assign. It is theoretically possible (but unlikely in practice) that everyone in the class could get an A. Typical grade distributions in this course have in the past been about 50% A's, 45% B's and 5% C or lower.
