We'll be making several important changes to the WOI-AM/FM schedule in January-- a part of our ongoing effort to provide the best mix of music and information programs. Your comments have played a big role in these changes, and we'll be interested to find out what you think of them.

AM640
We're adding 3 new programs to the schedule of Iowa's News and Information Station in January.

  • Saturday afternoons at 1pm, you'll hear NPR's Sounds Like Science with Ira Flatow, who also hosts NPR's Talk of the Nation Science Friday. Ira has redefined the way journalists report science news, and he brings his immense store of creativity to this new program, debuting January 4th.

  • Saturday afternoons at 2pm, WOI-AM640 welcomes another well-known weekday voice to the weekend lineup. Terry Gross hosts The Best of Fresh Air, presenting the best interviews, and book and music reviews from the previous week. Fresh Air is one of WOI's most talked-about programs. We hope the weekend airing will let you catch up on interviews you might have missed. And if you've never heard Fresh Air before, it might also be the perfect opportunity to hear for yourself what all the buzz is about.

  • Sunday mornings at 11am, we're very pleased to welcome back one of radio's best known comedy duos in a new series-- Classic Bob & Ray. This new series of 26 programs features classic soap operas and comic commercials-- many of which haven't been heard since their original broadcast in the 1940's and '50's. The series begins January 5th.

  • One other change of note: beginning in January, NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday with Liane Hansen runs from 7am through 11am. If you begin your day a little later on Sunday mornings, you'll now be able to hear more of the program.

    FM90.1
The bulk of WOI-FM90.1 changes will take place on Saturdays. But there's one important change in the Friday night schedule that jazz lovers will want to keep in mind:

  • Beginning January 3rd, Jazz After Hours with Jim Wilke will begin one hour earlier-- at 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights. FM90.1's jazz audience is growing, and we're working to provide you with more jazz, while still maintaining a solid schedule of classical music.

The Saturday evening schedule on FM90.1 will undergo the most significant changes in many years in January. Here's what you'll hear beginning January 4th:

  • 7:00pm Classic Bob & Ray. This new series of 26 programs will feature classic soap operas and comic commercials-- many of which haven't been heard since their original broadcast in the 1940's and '50's. Bob & Ray are particular favorites of many WOI listeners, and we're proud to be able to bring you more of their classic comedy.

  • 8:00pm Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz moves back one hour to make way for Bob & Ray.

  • 9:00pm Fascinatin' Rhythm moves up an hour.

  • 10:00pm Music from the Hearts of Space moves from 11p to 10pm. This change lets us do a couple of things: first, the earlier start time means more people will be able to hear this popular program; second, Hearts of Space at 10pm allows us to add another hour of jazz, which brings us to...

  • 11:00pm Jazz After Hours with Jim Wilke. As is the case Friday nights, the program will begin an hour earlier, so you'll be able to hear Jim Wilke and the great tunes without having to stay up until all hours of the night. (That is, unless you want or have to!)
