Vegetative Flow Resistance

As part of the Kissimmee River Restoration Project, the Kissimmee River is being returned to its
pre-channelized state.  With the South Florida Water Management District, we are working on
experiments to characterize the vegetative resistance in the floodplain using combined mean flow, turbulence, and dye measurements.  Unfortunately, these experiments have been on hold as Florida has been experiencing a drought and thus there is no actual flow in the floodplain.

Florida is practically a second home after our previous field work with the SFWMD doing concurrent dye injections and ADCP measurements to determine if ADCPs can be used to measure shear dispersion in a river.  This was another student's dissertation research - I was just alligator bait helping out with measurements.  We have two sites, one on the Kissimmee and one on the Loxahatchee.
