All my life for sale

This is a story of a young man trying to find himself in a world that depicts who you are by things we own. This young mans name is John Freyer, he alone decided that it was time for him to start over with his life, and even though he really had very good potential at college, he was very smart man as you’ll get to see later on in the reading.

John was a student at the University of Iowa where he was a Art History major and he was also a Bodine Fellow in the School of Art. Well one day he noticed how many things were around him that he never realized he had. There was a lot more stuff there in his Iowa City apartment then there was when he moved there, and the day he left Syracuse, New York the city he was born in he showed all his belongings in the little trunk of his Honda Civic. Now that he wanted to move back to New York there was no where near enough room to put all his stuff. So he did a little thinking and realized how much power the stuff we own has that it almost takes away your freedom. So he decides to sell all his stuff on eBay.

When he was trying to think of a catchy name for his sale, it almost seemed tahat every name was taken untill he typed in allmylifeforsale.com. . So he decided this was going to be the online garage sale of his life. So he first posted a few items to see if they would sell, and to his suprise they did. with evidence that his junk could sell he had a tag party where he invited friends and people he didnt know to tag every item they could find in his house. At the end of the party that went on clear into the morning, there was 600 items out for sale. soo he took pictures of all the items and started posting them. The catch was that when he sold them the buyers had to write back to him so that he can check up on their status, and to this bizzare ordeal, later he added that he wanted to come visit the buyers. As wierd as this sounds a lot of people insisted that he come visit. He then created another site called Temporama.com, and on this site he chronicled all his visits.

All in all John Freyer did something amazing here, he noticed what some of us have never been able to notice and that was that we are not who we are inside, but instead we are what we wear. To think of it this way might sound crazy, but it is true at least in some peoples minds, there has been plenty of us who at one point in our high school lives didnt fit in with the cool kids just because you did'nt have the designer clothes or that really fancy car that everybody who is who is driving. It is very amazing that it has come down to your belongings to describe the person you are.
