Mechanics of Composite Materials

Course Objectives: This course will introduce to you the fundamentals of Composite Materials. The main topics covered are:

• Micromechanics
• Properties of Laminas and transformation laws
• Properties of Symmetric laminates
• Properties of Non-symmetric laminates, calculations of [A], [B], and [D] matrices
• Failure of composite laminates
• Joining of composites
• Structural design aspects such as calculation of displacement and buckling of composite plates
• Effect of hygrothermal environment on the behavior of composites

In this course you will also write a code which will calculate laminate elastic properties, the ply stresses, calculate the deformed shape and does a ply by ply failure analysis.
