Communications, external and internalThe Office of University Relations directs Iowa State's public relations programs and related communications activities. This involves disseminating information, both externally and internally; promoting the university and its initiatives; and supporting admissions, retention, education, marketing, athletics, outreach and research efforts. University Relations reports directly to the university president and provides special presentations, public relations counsel, media training and community relations support. In the newsNews Service is the university's primary media relations unit and central source for ISU news and information. The News Service team provides members of the media with useful background material on a wide range of subjects. They connect faculty experts with reporters from around the globe and communicate news about breakthrough ISU research and noteworthy people, programs and activities. News Service also maintains the university's main news page at www.iastate.edu/~nscentral. Ready to helpUniversity Relations includes the following units: News Service, which coordinates media relations, disseminates news about the university and maintains the university's main Web news page. Internal Communications, which publishes the faculty/staff newspaper (Inside Iowa State) and weekly news e-mail (Update). This unit also manages the homepage and top levels of the university Web site Speakers Bureau, which coordinates faculty and staff speakers. Staff maintain a list of potential speakers and work closely with clubs, organizations and other groups throughout central Iowa to provide speakers for a variety of organziations and events.
