Sui Tong Chan Fung Fund for the Promotion of Study and Research in Genetics - Incoming Freshmen Scholarship
Award:
- The scholarship is for $1000 per year, continuous for four years, totalling $4000. Students will receive $500 per semester as long as GPA and major are maintained.
Applicant Criteria:
- Incoming freshmen in Genetics are considered for this scholarship. Transfer students are not eligible.
- Recipients will be chosen using available data, such as ACT/SAT scores, high school GPA, class rank, etc. This is not a need-based scholarship. It is in the students' best interest to provide as much data as possible when applying to ISU.
- Incoming freshmen students may be asked to proved a short paragraph explaining why they chose Genetics as a major. Notification of this request will be by e-mail.
Application Process:
- Students who apply and are accepted to ISU before January 15 are automatically considered for this scholarship. The awardee will be notified by email.
Sui Tong Chan Fung Fund for the Promotion of Study and Research in Genetics - Highest GPA Award
- Awards given to students majoring in Genetics.
- At least one (1) $250 award is given at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters to the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior with the highest GPA. No application is necessary.
Diane Marie Heimbuch Scholarship
Award:
Applicant Criteria:
- Student must be an undergraduate majoring in Biology, Genetics, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
- Student must be at least a sophomore in standing, full time, and an Iowa resident.
- Student must be in good academic standing with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Student must have at least one semester after Spring 2013 remaining at Iowa State University.
- Preference will be given to a student interested in animal biology.

Darlene and Melvin Larsen Scholarship
Award:
- Three $1000 awards are given each year. The previous awardee may re-apply.
Applicant Criteria:
- Student must be an undergraduate majoring in Biology, Genetics, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
- Student must be in good academic standing with a 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Student must have at least one semester after Spring 2013 remaining at Iowa State and maintain full-time status
- Preference is given to students who demonstrate leadership skills as evidenced by involvement with community or on-campus activities, organizations, etc.
- Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need.
- Preference is given to students with career interests in genetics, developmental biology, or cell biology.

College Scholarships
Internships Open to Genetics majors and minors
Sui Tong Chan Fung Fund for the Promotion of Study and Research in Genetics - Summer Undergraduate Internships
Award:
- The Department of Genetics, Development, and Cell Biology is accepting applications for summer research internships for the summer of 2013. These internships provide ISU undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Genetics an opportunity for full-time hands-on research in the discipline. Participants are expected to work 40 hours per week; enrollment in summer courses is discouraged. Internships are for an eight-week period and a stipend of $3500 will be provided by a combination of funds from the faculty mentor and the departmental fund.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Applicants must be majors or minors in Genetics
- Applicants must be in good academic standing, have at least one semester (Fall 2013) remaining before graduation and be eligible for full time employment by ISU.
- Applicants must identify a research project with a strong genetics component under a faculty mentor who is willing to provide space and support including a contribution of up to $1750 towards the internship stipend.
- Preference may be given to students with faculty mentors/projects within the Department of GDCB, although projects in other departments will also be considered.

- Applications will be reviewed by a panel of faculty and staff.
- Notification of awards will be made no later than Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 by e-mail and post.
George Washington Carver Internship Program
The 8 week summer research program for undergraduates exposes students to research by matching them with a faculty mentor in their area of interest and allows interns to become familiar with lives of graduate students in a large university and with living in Iowa. Interns participate in weekly seminars and social, cultural, and educational activities in addition to their research experience.
