The Women’s Leadership Summit that was held Friday, April 15, 2005 went very well.  There has been extremely positive feedback.  The turnout for the event was very good, close to 200 people attended the summit.  The Ames schools expressed an interest to be included in this event next year.  There is a follow-up meeting scheduled for April 28, 2005, to discuss this years summit and start plans for next years summit.

Please take a moment and review the recommendations for President Geoffroy and the President's Advisory Committee on Diversity (PACD).  The President, PACD, and CCIC will be meeting on Friday, April 29 at 7:30 am to discuss the report and next steps.  Penny will not be able to attend this meeting.  If you have comments or questions regarding the report, please let Penny know.  If you would like these to be shared during this meeting, please email Penny and they will be forward to the subcommittee members.

Penny stated ‘It was a joy to represent P&S Council, the University Committee on Women, and the Women's Center on this committee.  I am very hopeful that together we can improve the campus climate at Iowa State University’.

The accountability piece will be most controversial part of the Diversity Report.  With the dean searches taking place soon for the new College of Human Science, accountability is sure to be discussed at the Diversity Forums.

IV. Committee Reports

Strategic Planning Subcommittee

Report of Activities, 2004-2005

The strategic planning subcommittee held an open forum for UCW on September 8 from 3-5 p.m.  to discuss the 1st draft of the strategic plan.  Discussion focused on the fact that quality of life issues were not addressed. The input from this group was instrumental in developing the final draft of the strategic plan which will soon be approved by the Board of Regents.  The fifth priority (added in the second and expanded in the final draft) addresses university life and three of the nine specific goals relate to campus climate:

Priority: University Life

Ensure that the university is a great place to learn and work.

Goals

• Expand the diversity of people, ideas, and cultures, and nurture an environment in which diversity can thrive.

• Foster an environment in which all members of the university community can contribute their fullest while pursuing satisfying personal lives.

• Provide a rich array of extracurricular opportunities to learn, lead, and enjoy life.
