Oak Room, Memorial Union

Present: Jackie Litt, Cheryl Abrams, Linda Charles, Julie Hagen, Connie Post, Carolyn Heising, Diane Debinski, Georgia Hale, Jaye Stefani, Margie Tabor, Lynn Lundy Evans, Catherine Fox, Claudia Baldwin, Penny Rice, Virginia Blackburn, Mikie Walker, Gale Wallace, Susan Carlson, Ann Thompson

I. Issues/concerns to be brought forward?
--Julie Manning has been elected to the Women’s Golf Hall of Fame and will be inducted later this month at the national conference in Orlando.
--President Geoffrey has been invited to the February UCW meeting.

II. Subcommittee Reports:
Arrival of Children-Connie Post
The goal for this sub-committee is to have the Board of Regents vote on the policy at their March meeting in Ames. A proposal may be made that ISU be a pilot for all Regent Institutions.

College of Engineering-Carolyn Heising
The committee is not hopeful that there will be any women hires. There is a need to get women and minorities in the pipeline. The committee continues to collect their data.

Institutional Data-Liz Beck
--Institutional data is collected annually. It is there, but difficult to report. Data should formalized in the way it is gathered, for reporting, recommendations, etc.
--Gather more data on graduate students.
--Mark Chidister is heading a committee that is working to collect and organize data for women and minorities. UCW has a seat on this committee. Beck distributed a listing of categories for data on women. The committee members suggested that sexual harassment and complaints on gender issues be added.

Faculty Recruitment and Retention-Jackie Litt
Jackie Litt, Judy Vance, Connie Hargrave, Patrick Barr, Walt Gmelch, Herman Blake are members of a taskforce created by the Provost to review issues related to recruiting women faculty and ethnic minorities. Litt recommended that Provost Allen address search procedures, with the intent of increasing women in the pool of applicants. Litt will also pursue having a seminar with the university lawyers presenting the current scenario of affirmative action.

Mural-Penny Rice
--Rice reported on the Sexual Assault Task force meeting in December. Residence Director, Randy Alexander attended to report on the discussion between the girls and the hall members.
--The woman has been painted out of the mural. The keg remains and is a clear violation of university policy.
--Pete Englin will be holding debriefing meetings.
--Jackie Litt, Judy Vance, Connie Hargrave, Patrick Barr, Walt Gmelch, Herman Blake are members of a taskforce created by the Provost to review issues related to recruiting women faculty and ethnic minorities.

III. Inviting President Geoffroy:
The committee discussed inviting President Geoffroy to a meeting and having a conversation with him regarding his perception of the critical issues facing women on this campus. Ann Thompson will pursue this through the President’s Office
