Review of Minutes

The March 27, 2000 minutes could not be approved at this time. Approval was delayed until the May meeting.

Welcome new member

Barbara Lograsso, Assistant Director, WISE Program, will replace Mary Ann Evans as the Provost representative to UCW.

Ongoing Topics

    1. UCW Brochure — thanks to Penny.
    2. UCW Web site — Penny is still working toward gaining access to the site. There have been some challenges in communicating with the appropriate individual and obtaining passwords.
    3. Update on Administrative Searches:
      1. Agriculture Dean — on hold
      2. Director of Leopold Center — President Jischke is reviewing applications.
      3. Vice Provost for Research and Advanced Studies is finished and no offer has been made at this time.
      4. Faye Whitaker requested suggestions for revisions of "Guidelines for Administrative Searches" from Ed Lewis, 1998. A subcommittee was formed to work over the summer to examine the document and make suggestions.

Women’s Studies Program Report

Jill Bystydzienski reported that the joint hire between Anthropology and Women’s Studies, Karen Kessel, was made.

Women’s Center Report

Pam Thomas updated UCW that the "Women in Touch" workshop did not receive much response and therefore, it was cancelled. There was discussion about flyers and invitation being mailed late in Marcia’s absence. Pam also distributed Lavender Graduation invitations.

YWCA

Judy Dolphin announced that the Board voted on their scholarship recipient. The 3rd Annual Young Women’s Leadership Conference is seeking Mary Sue Coleman for the keynote in 2001. Another suggestion was Ann Rhodes. Tentative date for the 2001 conference is January 27, 2001.

Lectures Program Report

Pat Miller announced the upcoming speaker, Rachel Maines from Cornell, who will be speaking Thursday, April 27. The title of her speech is "Vibrator and Viagra" and it examines the history of science and technology.

Working Teams Reports

    1. Data/Assessment: The preliminary report of the Data and Assessment team was shared. Members working on this project include: Judy Dolphin, Silvia Secchi, Tanya Zanish-Belcher, Barbara McManus, Blue Maas, Deb Muenchrath and Mary Ann Evans. UCW will vote on the final report before distribution.
    2. Networking/Outreach: The team is waiting to purchase a resource and referral manual from the Red Cross.
    3. Provost Advisory Committee: Topics discussed at the last PAC Meeting included Women’s Studies Program support, Family/Medical Leave Policy.

Family/Medical Leave Policy Report

Pam Thomas, Nancy Knight, Carla Espinoza, Dianne Bystrom and Pat Miller have been discussing the policy. Carla’s office is looking at the general leave policy currently and recommended focus groups to examine the Family/Medical Leave Policy further. Carla provided suggestions to frame the focus groups. Focus groups are scheduled for Tuesday, April 25 at 12:00 pm in 302 Catt Hall. Lunch is provided to participants.

Faculty Women’s Network Event

Leslie Bloom and Barbara Caldwell have been coordinating the event for April 21, 2-4 pm in the Pioneer Room, Memorial Union. Women winning awards will be honored. The discussion tables will address generational themes.
