NEW BUSINESS
Update on UCW brochure: Penny Rosenthal presented second draft of brochure for feedback. Suggestions were made and noted. Additional feedback will be requested prior to the next UCW meeting through email contact.
Update on UCW web site: Penny Rosenthal stated that she is waiting to receive access to the UCW web site from the Provosts office. She also indicated concern about the access of the site through the Provosts web site. This concern will be discussed during the February 22 meeting of the Provost Advisory Committee.
P&S Salary Differentials: Nancy Knight presented the "Annual Report on P&S Salaries, May 1999." This report is available on the web (P&S Staff/Info/Annual P&S Salary Report). Discussion regarding the differences between gender and length of employment were highlighted. This report has been out and available since May 1999 and Nancy encouraged UCW to review, discuss and make recommendations if applicable. The Provost Advisory Committee will discuss the report during the February 22 meeting.
BPW Scholarship: Elena Polouchkina shared with Theresa McCormick a Business and Professional Womens Scholarship opportunity. Information on the scholarship can be found contacting Elena or on the Off Campus & Adult Student Services web page: www.iastate.edu/~offcamp_info
UCW Publicity: Theresa McCormick discussed with Linda Charles about the possibility of articles being written for Inside Iowa State on UCW. Linda recommended that UCW use Inside Iowa State to report committee work/assessment/etc. rather than simply discuss UCW.
ONGOING TOPICS
Administrative Searches: Elena and Linda Charles volunteered during the January meeting to track administrative searches. Elena was not present today to report. Theresa asked for other volunteers and Barbara McManus stepped forward. Current updates from members present included:
WORKING TEAMS REPORTS
Data/Assessment

Judy and Silvia presented preliminary results in graphs. A complete report will be coming soon. The next phase will be in locating peer institutions with comparable data. The narrative report will include references to the bland and impotent Strategic Plan.
Networking/Outreach

Currently waiting to purchase the resource book discussed at previous meetings. The Story County .. will be available at the Womens Center and perhaps several other locations on campus. It was suggested to include this information and location of the resource book in the UCW brochure. Penny indicated she would be calling a working team meeting before the next UCW meeting to discuss the next phase of Networking/Outreach.
Provost Advisory Committee
Members: Theresa McCormick , Pam Thomas, Pat Miller, Dianne Bystrom, and Penny Rosenthal
Next meeting with the Provost is scheduled for Tuesday, February 22, 2000. Topics mentioned previously will be discussed.
Provost Budget Process Team
Dianne reported the Budget Process Team has achieved the three goals:
The Budget Process Team recommends that ISU and the Provost begin to explore "top down funding" and other "streams of income" from outside sources. The team also recommends that the Provost establish an permanent Budget Task Force.
Provost Academic Review Team
Theresa shared the report from the Academic Review Team, "Enhancing Intersections: The Academic Plan, 2000-2005, Guiding Principles." Complete copies are available from Theresa.
Family/Medical Leave Policy Revisited
As stated in previous UCW meetings, there appears to be an opportunity across campus to have some impact on the Family/Medical Leave Policy. Human Resources is currently examining all leave policies. The Provost is very eager to receive a "proposed" policy from UCW. Nancy Knight indicated she would be happy to review current policy and policies from other institutions. Nancy was a member of UCW in 1990 when this issue was addressed. Dianne will forward Nancy a copy of the University of Oklahomas policy.
