Working Team Reports
Data/Assessment
Silvia Secchi and Deb Muenchrath reported that data has been collected from the department of Agriculture. Date includes demographics of faculty, P&S, Merit and students (enrollment, graduation rate, and retention statistics). The information is broken down by department. The team is waiting for data from peer institutions currently. Elena mentioned that a recent survey by P&S Council may include information useful to this teams efforts. Specifically, internal equity of salary. Blue Maas stated that there are nine pay grades within this college. In the first two grades, women are the greatest percentage. As grade increase the percentage of men doubles. In the ninth pay grade women are not present.
Networking/Outreach
Penny Rosenthal reported there was little activity since the last UCW meeting. Members are identifying agencies/individuals to send the survey to and the YWCA list Judy Dolphin mentioned will be reviewed before the next meeting. Elena indicated she would like to assist in the process.
Provost Relations
The team met with the Provost on November 1, 1999 and discussed the Strategic Plan. The Provost promised UCW representation on two task forces:
Academic Program Task Force Theresa McCormick will be representative. This task force will examine where reallocations will be applied. Mainly Deans on this task force.
Provost Budget Process/Planning Task Force Dianne Bystrom will represent UCW. This task force will examine the reallocation process and where the money will be taken from.
The next meeting with the Provost will be Monday, December 13, 1999, 11:30 am to 12:00 pm, 107 Beardshear.
Faculty Womens Network Report
Leslie Bloom reported that a larger event will occur in the spring this year. The theme will be "Faculty Concerns Across Generations. The career concerns of women faculty members will be the focus rather than age. Leslie asked for suggestions on what the issues are for faculty women:
Agriculture Dean Search
Blue Maas reported that the preferred candidate was Flora. Concerns and criticism of other candidates were discussed with comments from Deb Muenchrath also.
Review/Discuss Reception for New Women on Campus
A misunderstanding or miscommunication resulted in a situation at the recent reception. The time for the event was 3-5:00 pm. The invitation had 5:30 pm on them. As a result there was some confusion. Catt Hall doors are locked at 5:00 pm. Dianne Bystrom received some negative feedback on the reception. To avoid in the future, the event needs to be coordinated well in advance and UCW should take the lead in coordinating the event.
Thanks goes out to Pat Miller, Pam Thomas, Marcia Purdy, and Theresa McCormick for the time and energy coordinating this years reception.
