Meeting Minutes: September 1998
September 3, 1998
Members present: Bock, Bystydzinski, Caldwell, Dolphin, Evans, Hamilton,Heykants, Hornung (for Bystrom), Krengel, Larson, Maas, McCormick (vice-chair), Miller, Morgan, Pickell, Rosacker, Scheele, Schieermann, Stoehr,Svatos, Vivian (chair)Members introduced themselves. Subcommittee and task force interest sheets were circulated; tentative assignments will be distributed to members before the October 9 meeting.
Announcements:
Provost Kozak will attend the November 10 meeting. Please send suggestions for discussion to Vivian. Suggestions will be forwarded to the Provost prior to the meeting.
The chair will send memos to supervisors of UCW members who requested them.
A sign-up sheet was circulated during the meeting. If you did not indicateyour request on this sign-up sheet and wish a memo sent to your supervisor, please contact Mary Jo Vivian.
UCW will sponsor a poster at the Way-Up Conference on November 5-6. McCormick will present.
Calendar items:
September 29, 4-6:00 p.m., Women's Center: Provost Kozak's reception for new female employees at ISU. Co-sponsored by the Women's Center and UCW.
UCW voted unanimously to recommend that the reception include all new women hires, not just faculty and administrators. Thomas will relay the UCW recommendation to the Provost.
October 8, 6:00 p.m., Judy Dolphin's house, 1925 Hunziker. Deli potluck for all ISU women. Sponsored by Isolation Task Force. Invitation will be sent to UCW members and current e-mail list of women who have expressed interest in being included in such anti-isolation events.
October 2-3: Catt Center for Women in Politics Conference. Call Robin Hornung for additional information (4-9867).
October 14: Women in Touch, 7:30-9:00 a.m., Memorial Union. Almo Hawkins will be speaker.
November 5-6. Way-Up Conference, Gateway Center. Denise Vrchota and Deb Amenson, co-chairs.
Subcommittee reports:
Evans reported that the Gender Equity study is underway. Spring 1999 is target date for distribution.
The Sexual Harassment Brochure created last year will be sent to Espinoza and Tanaka, then to UCW members.
Theresa McCormick will serve as 1998-99 UCW liaison to the Women's Faculty Network.
Subcommittee and Task Force service:
A sign-up sheet was circulated for members to indicate subcommittee and task force service. If you were not present at the meeting, please indicate your interests to Mary Jo Vivian before September 11. (The current subcommittees are Awards and Recognition, Membership, University Searches, and Special Events. Task Forces are Race, Public Relations, and Isolation. Brief descriptions of each are in the gray UCW brochure that was included in your 9-3-98 agenda packets.)
