University Committee on Women Meeting Minutes
February 10, 1998

- 1. Searches
- Library Dean: Final list has been submitted to Provost.
- Women's Studies: Zora Zimmerman has approved invitations to four finalists to visit campus. Galyon also announced that Marie Lathers will be gone for the remainder of the semester.
- College of Education Dean: The search committee's final recommendation has been submitted to Provost.
- 2. Zanish-Belcher announced that Thomas Hill will be a guest at the April UCW meeting. Schedule conflicts prevented him from attending today.
- 3. Reports
- The Gender Equity Survey will meet in February. Zanish-Belcher will present a report at the March UCW meeting.
- The January 29 Maternity Leave/Family Leave Open Forum was well attended. UCW will prepare a list of suggestions/recommendations that came out of that forum for submission to the Provost on March 5. UCW will sponsor another Open Forum on this subject in March or April. (now scheduled for March 25)
- Morgan reported that the safety brochure is at the "design stage."
- Zanish-Belcher reported that the Faculty Women's Network Breakfast was successful and that there were approx. 40-50 attendees.
- Thomas reported that there are 97 Women-in-Touch registrations to date.
- Bystrom reviewed program plans for the remainder of the academic year for the ISU Women's Faculty Network. A brown-bag luncheon on the "The History of the Status of Women at ISU" has been scheduled for March 10 in the Oak Room from 12-1. There will be a roundtable discussion led by Jean Adams, Betty Stanley and Sharon Mathes. Theresa McCormick will moderate On Monday, April 6, from 12-1, the Network will meet with Dr. Ruth Mandel, the 1997-1998 Mary Louise Smith Chair in Women in Politics to discuss "Women in Higher Education." The final Network meeting of the year will be scheduled the week of April 20. It will honor women faculty award winners and include a report from UCW's gender equity subcommittee.
- Bock announced that the Alliance is investigating forming an LBGT university committee (on the UCW model).
- 4. Stoehr requested partial funding from UCW to attend a meeting in Madison, Wisconsin, but it was recommended that she contact the Dept. of Public Safety and Student Services, as UCW's budget is low.
- 5. There was an open discussion on the proposed ISU multicultural center. Pat Miller will send out questions to UCW members for their response.
