January 15, 1998 Meeting Minutes

Present: Bock, Brooks, Bystrom, Chervinko, Dolphin, Espinoza, Evans, Froyd, Heising, McCormick, Miller, Morgan, Thiele, Thomas, Zanish-Belcher

1. Zanish-Belcher introduced new members: Pam Thomas, Director of the Women's Center, and Fran Thiele, UCW P&S representative.

2. Report on searches:

The Women's Studies, Library Dean and LAS Dean search committees are still accepting applications.

Interviews have been set for the Dean of Education. Schedules have been made available to UCW members.

3. Espinoza spoke about recent Affirmative Action changes and circulated a draft copy of the memo the President's Cabinet will be distributing to Deans, Directors, and DEOs. This memo will explain changes in ISU recruitment and employment procedures.

One change is that search committees will be required to widely distribute their job openings, in order to recruit as diverse a job pool as possible.

Subcommittee and Task Force Reports

4. Evans reported on the Gender Equity Survey Report. The subcommittee is working with HRS to query former employees about the reasons they left ISU.

5. There is a Maternity Leave Open Forum scheduled for January 29, 12:00-1:00 p.m., in the Regency Room.

6. Bystrom announced that the Faculty Women's Network breakfast will be on January 23, 8:00-9:00 a.m., in the Campanile Room.. The April meeting will be a brown bag lunch with Ruth Mandel.

7. Morgan distributed drafts of the Sexual Harassment brochure. Please send suggetions/revisions to her.

Announcements

January 23. BeJae Fleming concert. The Alliance says thanks to its allies.

February 10. Dr. Thomas Hill, Vice President of Student Affairs, will visit the next UCW meeting, which is from 1:30-3:00 in the Oak Room.

February 13. Planning meeting for Way-Up conference.

February 20. Women in Touch, 12:00-2:00 p.m., Sun Room. (Jane Vallier, "Power equity in the workplace: Improving communication among faculty, staff, and students.")
