1. Zanish-Belcher distributed a controversial ad that appeared in ìFast Breakî and UCWís response to it.
2. Reports on searches:
Womenís Studies: Vivian reported for Galyon that the committee has received 19 applications and is currently studying them. The search committee would like closer to 30 applications, so encourages people to solicit appropriate applicants.
Education Dean: The four finalists have been selected.
LAS Dean: Applications are still being solicited.
Womenís Center: The decision has been made and will be announced later in the week.
Computation Center Director: The search has just begun.
Facilities Planning and Management Director: The finalists have been selected; Brooks will provide a schedule of open forums.
3. Gender Equity survey: The sub-committee plans to survey individuals who have left ISU to ask them why they left to see if there are gender differences. The committee will work with Espinoza and HRS.
4. ISU Maternity Leave policy: The Provostís Office has asked for UCW input on this issue. Zanish-Belcher would like ideas from other UCW members before January 15. Dolphin suggested discussion at an open forum with HRS. (This has now been scheduled for Thursday, January 29 from 12-1:00 p.m. in the Regency Room.)
5. Isolation Task Force/Task Force on Race: Plans for the January 22 deli potluck at Theresa McCormickís are progressing. The task forces would like each UCW member who attends to invite a friend. E-mail invitations will be sent to the ITF address list (women who have attended previous functions and/or asked to be added to the list). Frederickson and Vivian are working on the invitations, which will be sent out by the end of December.
6. Safety Committee: Morgan reported that a draft of the proposed sexual harassment brochure will be distributed at the January meeting.
7. Way-Up report: Zanish-Belcher reported that UCW is sending a memo to Provost Kozak that suggests a strategy session be held in early 1998 to determine whether or not the Way-Up conferences should be continued.
8. Affirmative Action: There was discussion on whether or not a new AA officer should be independent of the HRS office. The UCW recommendation will be that it should be independent of HRS. Zanish-Belcher will distribute the position description for this position.
9. Dolphin, Enloe and Chervinko are preparing the 1998 womenís calendar. Bystrom is working on the spring semester Faculty Womenís Network calendar.
10. Awards Committee: The percentages of university awards earned by women at ISU in 1997 were: faculty 27%, P&S 50%, and S/C 100%.
11. John McCarroll, Director of University Relations, spoke of the external affairs/public relations efforts being made by the University Relations Office. A discussion followed, and McCarroll took questions and suggestions from the UCW members present.
