1. Women's Faculty Network: Dianne Bystrom (in the person of Robin Hinders) encouraged attendance at the Friday, December 5 roundtable discussion titled, "Promotion and Tenure Procedures: What Changes Lie Ahead?" Discussion leaders will be Olivia Madison, Chair of the Committee to Review Promotion and Tenure Criteria and Procedures, and Denise Vrchota, President-Elect of the Faculty Senate. This meeting will be in the Memorial Union Gold Room from 12-1 p.m.
Hinders also announced that a January breakfast meeting at which women faculty members can meet with women administrators is being organized. Tentative dates are January 19, 20, 22 or 23; more information will be forthcoming.
2. Zanish-Belcher announced that UCW will contribute $50 to the Alliance" $25.00 for a speaker and $25.00 for a photographic exhibit.
3. Women's Center Director Search meetings with UCW/Diversity Steering Committee are scheduled:
Rutledge: November 14, 10-11, 225 Student Services
Enloe: November 19, 2-3, 225 Student Services
Thomas: November 21, 10-11, 225 Student Services
4. Searches
Women's Studies: Galyon reported that the Committee has been formed and job announcements have gone out.
Library: Review of applications will be conducted in December and January.
Education: Plans are to conduct interviews in December.
5. Chervinko reported on the Way-Up conference in Cedar Rapids. There were ca. 100 attendees, 13 from ISU. At the March UCW meeting, Denise Vrchota and Deb Amenson, 1998 Way-Up co-chairs, will present a progress report on the upcoming conference.
6. Enloe reported on the October 21 Women in Touch program. 178 women attended and app. 100 evaluations were returned. The responses were for the most part favorable in regards to Denise's presentation, but unfavorable towards the Memorial Union food and service. Enloe has forwarded the suggestions to the Union.
8. The Spring Women in Touch will be Friday, February 20, 12-2 p.m. Jane Vallier will present a program entitled, "Power Equity in the Workplace: Improving Communication among Staff, Faculty and Students."
9. Vivian reported that the Isolation Task Force and Task Force on Race have made tentative plans to co-sponsor a potluck on January 22, preceding Patricia Russell McCloud's MLK Celebration Lecture, "Where Do We Go From Here?" Theresa McCormick has offered to host and members of UCW are urged to attend and bring a friend. This event will be announced via e-mail after the two task forces have met to finalize details.
10. The Safety Task Force is preparing information on ISU's Sexual Harassment policy that will be summarized in a brochure for campus-wide distribution.
11. Evans presented a progress report on the Gender Equity Survey and the decision to use data already available.
12. McCormick distributed brochures describing the Research on Women and Education Conference being held November 13-15 at the Gateway Center.
13. Espinoza reported on the new EAP contract which is a collaboration between the Richmond Center and McFarland Clinic. Information has been distributed to administrative units on campus.
14. Carol Meeks, Dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences was a guest at the meeting. As the new Dean, she plans to emphasize scholarship, public relations, computer upgrading, and student recruitment. She also said that the 1998 Hilton chair will be a research-oriented early childhood development scholar.
