Special Events: The next Women in Touch will be held April 16. Dianne Bystrom will be speaking.
Membership: Stephanie was not present, but Nancy said we have openings for one Faculty, 2 P & S, and 1 Merit.
Later in the meeting, members discussed contacting the students on the Committee who do not use their e-mail, as well as focusing efforts on attracting a more diverse membership for next year. Stephanie will be asked to send applications to various groups on campus -- African-American Studies, Latino Studies, the Multi-Cultural Task Force, and International Students.
Task Force Reports
Isolation: had a lunch on Monday (8 attendees) and a potluck at Mary AnnĚs. The group would like to continue socializing so Mary Jo has offered to host another one on May 13 (Tuesday) at 5:30. Her address is 1458 Truman Place and everyone who attends must bring something from the deli/grocery (in the original containers). It was also decided that the group would have a fall kick-off. Nancy then pointed out that the University Committee on Women, the Faculty Senate, and the WomenĚs Faculty Network will be sponsoring an event for new Faculty and Staff, and all women on campus in August and will coordinate with the Isolation Task Force. The ProvostĚs Office will be organizing this (the Provost suggested Reiman Gardens as a location). Tanya will check with Faye Whitaker about August 21 as a possible date.
Task Force on Race
There was a brief discussion concerning the programs and activities of the YWCA. Judy then talked about forming a Study Circle sponsored by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the difficulties of organizing one. Celia suggested that Judy talk with Suzanne Zilber and others suggested she contact the Multi-Cultural Task Force.
Task Force on Safety
Robie will be calling a meeting shortly and has a copy of safety survey that she will be distributing.
Special Events: Take Back the Night will be held April 16.
Other issues: Carolyn brought up the tenure issue and there were discussions over the proposed document (there will be open forums this spring and fall). Linda brought up the fact that taking time off the tenure clock (for children) is still optional - only with permission of the Dept. It had been proposed five years ago, but was tabled. Tanya will contact Olivia Madison and give her our input.
Nominations for Vice-Chair: Mary Jo Vivian was nominated and others who have nominations are asked to contact Stephanie.
There was brief discussion concerning an article in the Daily. Hard copies will be distributed to all members. Tanya, Celia, Nancy, and Mary Ann will draft a response.
The meeting adjourned at app. 11:40.
Respectfully submitted,
Tanya L. Zanish
