Present: No attendance taken. Guests: Francine Kendall and Faye Whitaker.
Francie Kendall met with UCW members from 8-12. Among the items discussed were the goals decided upon at the retreat last year. The group related the activities of the various task forces and groups that were formed.
There was then a general discussion of working within the university bureaucracy. Francie described the variety of communication types and the importance of knowing them when trying to communicate in a corporate setting.
The types follow:
Analytic (Task oriented/Asks directly):
Concerned with data
Time is not an issue
Fear: inaccuracy
In a pinch: they withdraw
Driver (Task oriented/Tells directly):
Concerned with task
Fear: Missing window of opportunity
In a pinch: My way or the highway
Amiable (People oriented/Asks directly):
Concerned with people, feelings, process
Fear: conflict
In a pinch: Stop talking and get even later
Expressive (People oriented/Tells directly):
Concerned with people/Long-range thinking
Fear: Invisibility/Boredom
In a pinch: Scream/Sarcastic
