January 1997 Meeting Minutes

January 9, 1997

Present: LaVille, Messer, Phye, Conner, Brystrom, Sullivan, Chervinko, Rasnak, Miller, Walker, Vivian, Evans, Constant, Brooks, Theile, and Zanish

University Relations Search: The UCW and the Diversity Steering Committee will have separate meeting times with the candidate.

Tanya will send out a reminder along with the questions developed by the Sub-Committee on Searches last year. Everyone who attends should send their comments to Nancy so that she can draft recommendations.

Tanya passed out the open forums times for the Affirmative Action position.

Provost Kozak is chairing the search for Vice-President Tom Thielen's position and Dean Nancy Eaton (Library) is chairing the one for Dean Crabtree's position.

Way-Up Conference: Stephanie and Jane are the liaisons. Suzanne Hendrich has agreed to co-chair and efforts will be made to locate another co-chair.

Visit of the Provost to UCW. Possible topics for discussion include: the difficulties of women making Full Professor, low number of awards, the cost to communicate with women on campus, the need by UCW of more financial support. Mary Ann, Dianne, and Nancy will work on drafting questions.

Sub-committees:

Isolation: will be meeting right after UCW is finished.
Safety: has not met.
Status survey: possibility of sending out safety survey developed bu Lisa and Celia. Full cost of survey will be $1500 - Dianne suggested asking for this money next year's budget. Mary Ann suggested forming a sub-committee to organize for next year. The members will be Fran, Nancy, Mary Ann and Tanya.

Francine Kendall will be meeting with UCW next month. Nancy will try and book the room, 8-12. She also noted meeting times for the semester.

Mikie asked that a memo be sent to supervisors listing the meeting times.

The meeting adjourned at ca. 11:00 a.m.
