Women were integral members of campus as soon as Iowa State opened its doors. Women enjoyed a host of social activities, including firesides, teas, and dances. They participated eagerly in VEISHEA, Homecoming, and other annual events around campus. Sororities and other women's organizations especially encouraged their members to become involved in campus activities and helped create many lasting traditions at Iowa State. As the social culture of the school changed, so too did women's fashions, housing conditions, and the nature of their relationships with their male classmates.
