Arabidopsis small RNAs and their targets during cyst nematode parasitism. Molecular plant-microbe interactions : MPMI 2008;21(12):1622-34.

MPMI2008cover

About the cover(from MPMI):

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) and other small RNAs are involved in developmental and biological processes in plants, and some of these processes are similar to those implicated in the formation and function of the cyst nematode feeding site, the syncytium. The cover image shows two third-stage juveniles of the sugar beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii that are sedentary and feeding on roots of Arabidopsis thaliana. Their developing syncytia can clearly be seen as swollen and dense regions in the center of the infected root when compared to the uninfected root above. In this issue, evidence is presented for the implication of miRNAs and other small RNAs in cyst nematode parasitism. The stem-loop structures of a subset of miRNAs that were found to be differentially regulated in A. thaliana in response to infection by H. schachtii are represented in boxes above and below the roots. For the article by Hewezi et al., see page 1622.
