Research focus

My role as an Assistant Scientist in the Baum lab is to serve as the lab manager, providing technical support for the personnel and materials for the ongoing research projects, including maintaining greenhouse cultures of Heterodera glycines, the soybean cyst nematode, and Heterodera schachtii, the sugar beet cyst nematode, as well as other plant parasitic nematodes for teaching and research purposes.  Other main responsibilities include two ongoing research projects, and supervision of the hourly staff.

Currently, I am involved in two research projects. The first focuses on the development of a bioinformatics project to aid in the large-scale identification of parasitism genes of the soybean cyst nematode. To this end, we are using pre-exisitng bioinformatics tools, as well as attempting to develope our own tools to fit our needs.

My other project currently involves the generation of soybean hairy root constructs and testing them against soybean cyst nematode for altered susceptibility.

In addition, I am also in charge of creating and maintaining the Baum Lab web site, so please let me know what you think of our little corner of the web!
