Dear Brother Knights:

Last week we had a speaker from Australia. Matthew Kelly by name. He has been drawing large crowds in many different countries around the world. In addition he has written a number of books.

One of his main themes has been, and is, we need silence and isolation in this busy world of ours. The distractions we use have caused us to lose sight of the essential values of our lives.

Being in an accident has caused me to stop and reexamine my life and I am grateful that God took this way to slow me down. I have been isolated since Feb. 29th to a great degree and silence is part of my lifestyle.

It helps me to concentrate on the important questions such as: 1) Who am I? and 2) Who is Christ? With time to do some serious questioning, I realize that I have neglected to care for my spiritual life because I was too busy. I have relearned that I need to put most of my distractions, such as radio, TV, and newspapers aside and I have time to answer, "God made me, I belong to him." He became man and through his life, death and resurrection has taught me how to live. Especially, how to emphasize the things most important such as: 1) Love God above all things, and 2) Love my neighbor as myself.

I hope you don't have an accident but I do want you to learn the importance of silence and solitude and come to the same conclusions.

Again, I thank all of you for your prayers.
