Current Post-Doctoral Researcher Ph.D Environmental Engineering Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong 2002 Dr. Samir K. Khanal's Research Interests Focus on environmental engineering, in particular to biological processes for industrial, agricultural, and municipal liquid and solid wastes treatment and resources recovery: - High-rate anaerobic waste treatment systems for valuable byproduct recovery from waste streams - energy and nutrients. - Biological hydrogen production from renewable organic wastes. - Single-stage treatment of high strength sulfate rich wastewater. - Oxygenated anaerobic treatment of high strength waste stream. - Use of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) for anaerobic process control. - Biological sulfide conversion to elemental sulfur. - Bioleaching for heavy metal removal. - Anaerobic membrane bioreactor for the treatment of low to medium strength wastewater
