Student Counseling Service

What to Expect
The process when you call for an appointment

When you call SCS for a first appointment (or after your previous counseling has been terminated), you will be asked for your student ID and whether you are currently enrolled at ISU. You will also be asked to provide some contact information such as a phone number or email address so we can contact you if there is a need to change your appointment time.

You will be asked to choose between three ways to complete the initial paperwork that is required before your first appointment. You may choose to arrive 15-20 minutes early and complete the paperwork in the office before seeing a counselor, you can complete the paperwork at the time you make your appointment, or you can choose to take the paperwork with you and bring it back completed at the time of your appointment.

The first appointment is an initial screening so we can better understand your situation and concerns. After this initial meeting, the screening counselor will review your information with a professional team to determine the best service for your needs. You will then be called to be offered an appointment for continued counseling or to discuss another service which may better fit your needs. This should occur within 2 business days of your initial appointment.
