Goals of the SCS Internship Program

  1. The staff will maintain a high level of involvement in the training program which creates an essential vitality for the agency.
  2. Interns will become competent generalist practitioners (Counseling and psychotherapy component, outreach/consultation component, psychological assessment component, supervision component, ethical and professional behavior component, and multicultural awareness component).
  3. In keeping with a practitioner-scholar model of psychology practice, interns will integrate evidence and research into practice (consistent with the principles of evidence-based practice) and will have the opportunity to participate in research activities.
  4. Interns’ professional growth will be facilitated via a developmental training model, geared to individual levels and designed to gradually become more complex as training progresses (counseling and psychotherapy component and outreach/consultation component).
  5. Interns will be trained in developing and providing outreach programming to a diverse university community.
  6. Interns will be provided with leadership and administrative opportunities (Ethical and professional behavior component).
  7. Interns will be supported in their development as professional psychologists (Ethical and professional behavior component).
  8. Attention to multicultural issues will be integrated throughout the training program (Multicultural awareness component).
  9. Interns will follow the APA ethics code and the state laws of Iowa (Ethical and professional behavior component).
