Goals of the SCS Internship Program
- The staff will maintain a high level of involvement in the training program which creates an essential vitality for the agency.
- Interns will become competent generalist practitioners (Counseling and psychotherapy component, outreach/consultation component, psychological assessment component, supervision component, ethical and professional behavior component, and multicultural awareness component).
- In keeping with a practitioner-scholar model of psychology practice, interns will integrate evidence and research into practice (consistent with the principles of evidence-based practice) and will have the opportunity to participate in research activities.
- Interns’ professional growth will be facilitated via a developmental training model, geared to individual levels and designed to gradually become more complex as training progresses (counseling and psychotherapy component and outreach/consultation component).
- Interns will be trained in developing and providing outreach programming to a diverse university community.
- Interns will be provided with leadership and administrative opportunities (Ethical and professional behavior component).
- Interns will be supported in their development as professional psychologists (Ethical and professional behavior component).
- Attention to multicultural issues will be integrated throughout the training program (Multicultural awareness component).
- Interns will follow the APA ethics code and the state laws of Iowa (Ethical and professional behavior component).
