Career Exploration Services
The Career Exploration Services office is a division of the Student Counseling Service and it is dedicated to serving the Iowa State University students. The main mission of the staff at the Career Exploration Services office if to provide individual career counseling and assessment to help students improve their career decision-making skills and self-efficacy for making a career choice.
Career counselors help ISU students explore their interests, skills, and values related to career choices; explore career alternatives; and, make decisions about college majors and career directions. The Career Exploration Services office also offers workshops and resources related to career planning, such as preparing for their first job or for application to graduate and professional schools.
Career Exploration Services is designed to help students learn about themselves, the world-of-work, and make informed decisions about majors and careers. We offer a variety of services, including our Career Exploration Library, LAS 104, and Individual Career Counseling.
The Career Exploration Services Office, located on the 3rd floor of the Student Services Building, room 3078, has many resources to help you in your search for a major or career.
We offer the following resources:
- Books and reference guides: Our library houses hundreds of books, pamphlets, handouts, and reference guides for your use. Topics include books on numerous careers, career issues relating to members of special populations, and graduate and professional school information.
- Computerized Guidance System: The library offers access to KUDER, a computer-based career planning program that helps students learn more bout themselves and the occupations that might be suitable for them. KUDER assesses students' interests, experience, and values, and uses that information to suggest career areas to explore. KUDER can also help students research options for undergraduate, graduate, and professional training.
- Computerized Test Preparation Programs: The Career Exploration Library offers practice versions of standardized national tests via computer. Students may practice taking the GRE, GMAT, and TOEFL to prepare for the actual examination.
