File: /home/wqmeeker/stat533/grading.policy Grading Policy for Statistics 533 Final grades for Statistics 533 are obtained by averaging grades from examinations, projects, and weekly homework assignments using the following weights: Midterm examination .35 Final examination .40 Project .10 Homework .15 Students who receive the grade "check" for all homework assignments will receive 100 percent for this part of the course grade. Assignments turned in late but before on-time assignments are returned to students (for on-campus students, usually on Tuesday following a Thursday due-date) will be marked "check-L" and lose 25% credit. Assignments that are turned in after the on-time assignments have been returned (and solutions posted) will receive the grade "check-LL" and receive only 50% credit. Late assignments may not be reviewed carefully. It is still, however, always much better to turn in a late assignment than no assignment at all. Students are permitted to turn in one late assignment without any penalty, but this late assignment must be submitted before the on-time assignments are returned to the other students. Guaranteed minimum final course grades will based on the following scale: >= 94 A >= 90 A- >= 87 B+ >= 83 B >= 80 B- >= 77 C+ >= 73 C >= 70 C- It is possible that higher grades could be assigned than those shown above. There are no pre-fixed proportions of grades that I will assign. It is theoretically possible (but unlikely in practice) that everyone in the class could get an A. Typical grade distributions in this course have in the past been about 55% A's, 40% B's and 5% less than B.
