A new technique for high quality acoustic echo cancellation in teleconference and speakerphone systems was developed. The new echo canceler was based on combining an enhanced adaptive filtering algorithm with a spread-spectrum-based estimate of the room acoustic impulse response. The spread-spectrum technique was used to mitigate the effects of double-talk. A feasibility model was designed, developed, and demonstrated.
