International Web Sites:
Diversity & Ethnic Studies
This Virtual Community began as a simple, personal
list of U.S. diversity-related Internet resources, now expanded to
include some international links.
For those of us far from home, it is a means of keeping in touch with our
communities. It is also a good place to begin learning about others,
different than us. For resources dealing with U.S. racial & ethnic
diversity, visit the Diversity & Ethnic
Studies: Virtual Community home page.
African Resources
The Univ. of Pennsylvania's authoritative
African Studies
WWW leads to a wealth of African and pan-African research materials,
including country-specific pages, information on the African Studies
Association, and extensive lists of Black/African Internet
resources. See also History of Southern Africa
an electronic research guide I compiled that points to numerous research
tools available to ISU students and on the Internet.
Asian Resources
The
CERN/ASU Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library (includes areas of the
former Soviet Union, the Middle East, and Turkey) provides very thorough
coverage of numerous (if not all) Asian countries, listing Internet
resources and information, and seemingly endless links.
European Resources
Check out the
Virtual Tourist II, listed below.
Latin American &
Caribbean Resources
UT-Lanic (the University of
Texas at Austin's Latin American Network Information Center) leads to a
wealth of scholarly information concerning all of Latin America and the
Caribbean. Daily electronic editions of some Latin American
newspapers are available; coverage is especially good for Mexico.
Librarian Molly Molloy's authoritative bibliography (netography?) of Latin
American Internet resources is also accessible here. Also check out the
Hispanic/Latino Telaraņa
for more recreational Latin American links. See also the brand new Handbook of Latin American
Studies, now available and searchable on its own website!
Middle Eastern Resources
The Middle East Resource Center
has apparently taken down its entire Web site, "passing the torch
on to others with more energy"!
The Middle
East Resources page of the CERN/ASU Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library
might be a reasonable substitute.
