Become a teen 4-H rabbit project leader
4-H’ers who are in 7th grade or above, are enrolled in the rabbit project area, and specify their wish to become rabbit leaders on their 4-H enrollment forms may be teen rabbit project leaders.
As a teen rabbit leader you can build leadership skills by...
—Helping to plan rabbit meetings
—Giving short talks or demonstrations at rabbit project meetings
—Helping rabbit project leaders facilitate educational games or activities
—Helping to tattoo rabbits
—Putting up exhibitor name cards and putting sawdust under cages at County Fair
—Helping check in rabbits at the County Fair
—Assisting in show ring setup at County Fair
—Helping with show ring activities at County Fair
—Helping with clean up at meetings and at County Fair
—Helping with the Supreme Showmanship Competition at the County Fair
—Helping new rabbit members on sale day at County Fair
—Helping to monitor rabbit barn at County Fair to ensure cleanliness, rabbits are fed and watered, and are not loose.
—Serving as a mentor to younger 4-H’ers in the rabbit project area all year long

Remember to keep a record of your leadership responsibilities and the activities you facilitated during the year as a teen rabbit leader and include them in your 4-H record book. Awards at the county level are often based on leadership.

Resources
Books—Contact Virgene and Regina for information or books regarding any topic on which you need information. We each have the Standard of Perfection (also available at the Jewell and Webster City Libraries) as well as several ARBA books. etc.

Tattoo kit available for checkout—A tattoo kit is available for checkout from the Hamilton County Extension office. It should not however, be checked out around the time of the county rabbit tattoo day, as it is always needed for that event.

Judges Rabbit Scale—Can be borrowed from Regina. Hopefully by next year we will have an electronic tattoo set as well.
