Anne Oldham Purpose: Assessment, Learning, Professional Development, Employment, & Showcase The Food Science and Human Nutrition Department will use electronic portfolios
to assist students map and showcase their knowledge and professional skill
development. Currently about 60 dietetics students use portfolios (most
of which are hard copy format) to demonstrate their professional communication
skills and content area abilities to prospective employers. As electronic
communication becomes the norm, students should be able to electronically
display their creative and professional work. The desired outcome is to foster a professional development attitude in students’ learning. Students will be better prepared to secure highly desired entry-level positions, in part by using a subset of their artifacts as a professional portfolio that displays greater depth of skills and knowledge than contained in a transcript and resume. |
