The eDoc project is a multi-year, multi-unit collaboration among different colleges at Iowa State University. The project began in Fall 2003 and is funded by the Computation Advisory Committee (CAC) that provides advice and recommendations to the Provost on all aspects of student computing at the university. Purpose The eDoc project
involves developing a campus-wide, web-based electronic portfolio system
called eDoc. It allows students (undergraduate and graduate) to collect
and present evidence demonstrating academic and professional competencies
to faculty advisors, departments, and potential employers. It also allows
students to interact and collaborate with their peers in a professional
and scholarly manner. Partners The flexibility afforded by the eDoc project allows college partners to move in and out of the project in response to their respective needs. Please click Partners to see details of colleges involved. Open Source Technology The eDoc utilizes open source electronic portfolio (OSPI) software. eDoc is integrated with myIowaState portal being developed jointly by AIT, ATS, the Library, Student Affairs, and the Alumni Association. myIowaState is a campus-wide service to aggregate information from a variety of campus sources into a simple, web-based tool. The myIowaState portal is available to all students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. Update eDoc was recently awarded CAC funding for two more years. The first year of funding resulted in the design and development of four discipline-specific themes. Currently LAS is piloting its prototype with 100 students in the English department. The other colleges have developed prototypes that are ready for first phase of testing. |
