General InformationExamination times in courses except those in special groups:Time for examinations is determined by the student's first contact of the week in each course. Courses having multiple instruction types:The first recitation or lecture of the week is considered the first contact of the week. In courses having both recitations and lectures, the department head will determine whether the first lecture or the first recitation is to be considered the first contact. Courses having a first contact other than on the hour:The first hour following the partial hour start time should be used. For example: 8:30 class would have a 9:00 contact; 12:40 a 1:10 contact; 2:30 a 3:10 contact, etc. Administration of the final exam:Final exams may not be given at a time other than that for which the exam is scheduled by the registrar. An instructor may not give a final exam prior to final exam week nor change the time of offering of the final examination as it appears in the final exam schedule. Permission to change the time for which an exam is scheduled may be given only by the dean of the college. If the instructor elects not to give a final exam in a course of two or more credits, the class is required to meet at the scheduled final exam period for other educational activity such as a review of the course or feedback on previous exams Changing the time of a student's examination:If unusual circumstances necessitate changing the time of a student's final examination, the student must obtain the approval of the course instructor of the course. Courses not on the examination schedule:Courses not provided for on the exam schedule, such as those with first contact hour on Tuesday at 12:10 or on Wednesday, are to have examinations during final week at a time and location to be announced by the instructor. Location of examination:Examinations will be held in the meeting location of the first contact of the week, except those in Special Groups. For the Special Groups, the location will be announced by the instructor. Conflicts of courses within special groups:In case of conflicting examinations, the student will report to the instructor in charge of the first of the two conflicting courses as listed within the Special Group in question. This instructor will arrange for a make-up examination or alternative arrangement. Students with three examinations in one day:If a student has three examinations scheduled on the same calendar day and wishes to change one to another day, the instructor of the course having the smallest number of students is responsible for arranging an alternate examination time for the student unless make-up exam times are available in one of the other courses. Requests to change exam day/time:The student wishing to change the day of the exam must make his/her request to the instructor no later than the last scheduled class day before the beginning of the dead week. Instructors desiring to enforce the above policy must inform the students about the policy in writing. Unresolved conflicts between instructors and students:Students or instructors having an unresolved conflict may contact the Office of the Registrar at 515-294-1566 for assistance or referral. |
