Professional Development Opportunities

Are you looking for ways to “grow” in your advising position?  Are you looking for information on the latest trends and directions in the field of academic advising?  Are you interested in being the best you can be at your job?   UAAC is there to help you find these professional development opportunities.  Here are a few resources you might consider:

• Join the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)!  Membership provides you with a multitude of resources - printed materials, DVDs, etc. – and opportunities such as conferences and workshops on the hot topics in the advising field.  Go to their website at www.nacada.ksu.edu to explore the resources available to you.
• The ISU CELT Library has 20+ books, monographs, pocket guides, DVDs and CDs on various advising topics that can be checked out for two weeks.  New materials have recently been purchased by CELT – these resources will help you examine a variety of advising topics.   Consider checking out “Scenes for Learning and Reflection:  An Academic Advising Professional Development DVD” – this DVD has 10 vignettes with actual advising scenarios for you or your advising staff to view and discuss!
• Adviser Summits hosted by UAAC that will add to your background in advising.
