I graduated in 2008 as a valedictorian of Waterloo West high. I was also a nine-time varsity letter winner, as I have done very well in football, wrestling and track since I was very young. I have been on ESPN twice, both times for being one of the top 100 college football recruits in the nation.
More recently, however, I have shifted my interests toward my academics. I do not compete in any sports for ISU, not that they didn’t ask. It’s just that if I were playing college football, I’d probably be writing this in southern California.
The reason that I am pursuing a mechanical engineering degree is the fact that I am addicted to cars. I have owned fourteen in the past three years, as I buy them wrecked or not running, then fix and sell them. My current project is an all-original 1974 Stingray Corvette, which is now in the process of being painted. In time that I’ve owned it, I have rebuilt the engine and transmission, replaced the entire suspension and brake systems, and completely restored both the interior and the body. In other words, about five years of restoration shoved into three months’ time.
