Home Competitive Selection Conflict of Interest Controlled Substances Iowa Gift Law Professional Services/PSAs Sole Source Procurement | Controlled Substances Controlled substances may be defined as drugs or chemicals that:
Derivatives of such chemicals or drugs or components of various chemicals or drugs are also considered controlled substances. The Purchasing Department maintains the necessary Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and State of Iowa licensing to purchase controlled substances. The acquisitions made by the Purchasing Department are limited to teaching purposes only and cannot be utilized for research projects, etc. Individuals requiring controlled substances for research must obtain their own individual DEA and State of Iowa licensing. Orders placed for controlled substances will only be delivered to the address listed on the DEA license certificates. Orders placed for teaching purposes under Purchasing's license will be delivered to the Purchasing Department and the requesting department will need to come and pick up the package. Once every two years, ISU is required to perform an inventory of the controlled substances procured on Purchasing's DEA license. Departments who have made such procurements are required to inventory such controlled substances. The DEA requires that all controlled substances be stored in a secured area and that access be limited to the requester who initiated the controlled substance purchase. Individuals placing orders for research will need to utilize Purchasing to process the order, but the delivery will be made to the address listed on the individual's license. Applications for controlled substance licensing may be obtained by contacting: Controlled Drug Division 1209 E.
