General Information . . .
Lab Chemicals should be purchased through Chemistry Stores when available there. If the chemicals are not available through Chemistry Stores, the purchasing procedures detailed below should be used. For gas cylinders and controlled substances, please see the separate procedures for these types of purchases.

ISU also maintains a contract for chemicals and supplies through Fisher Scientific and Sigma Aldrich. ISU has discounted pricing for all items available in the Fisher Catalog and other items that may not be in the catalog. Pricing can be obtained from the Fisher or Sigma sales representatives or by a password protected Fisher website  or Sigma website that gives ISU discounted pricing. Passwords to the site can be obtained by contacting the Fisher representatives Brooke Nelson at (1-800-955-6666 ext. 5977)or via email brooke.nelson@fishersci.com or the Sigma Aldrich representative Joel Hansen at (402-933-0456) or via email jhansen@sial.com.  Pricing can also be obtained by contacting Al Brooks Email: Al Brooks (acbrook@iastate.edu) or Kelly Freel Email: Kelly Freel (kmfreel@iastate.edu) in the Purchasing Department. Purchasing can set up a departmental contract for any department requesting one. Orders for these contracts are placed using release numbers allowing the purchase to be billed on the contract. Contracts allow purchases up to $5000 in total for items costing less than $5,000 each. Items over $5,000 are classified as equipment and need to be purchased by sending a web requisition to Purchasing.
