COURSE CONTENT: Topics from Chapters 5,8,9,10,12 and 13 in text

• Linear operator theory
• Spectral theory of differential and integral operators
• Green's functions and boundary value problems
• Weak solutions of partial differential equations and variational methods
• Calculus in Banach spaces and applications

Homework assignments.........................50% of grade
Midterm exam......................................   20% of grade    Midterm with solutions
Final examination...................................30% of grade    Final Exam with solutions

        Homework assignments will be given about once a week and due about a week later. Discussion of homework problems with other students is encouraged, but what is handed in should be your own work. I am often willing to talk with you and give hints about the assignments before they are due.
