Textbook: Dale Varberg, Edvin J. Purcell, Steven E. Rigdon Calculus, ninth edition

Course objectives: applications of the integral, techniques of integration, indeterminate forms and improper integrals, Infinite series, plane parametric curves, polar coordinates. The course covers chapter 5 and 7-10.
Course policy:

• Attendance is strongly encouraged. If you miss any class, it is your responsibility to go over the material which was covered.

· Check the Black Board system for this class to get access to the homework and other announcements.

• Any changes to course policies or this syllabus will be announced in class.

Homework:

• There will be 10 written homework assignments during the course.
• You are recommended to work on the suggested homework problems as well.
• Feel free to ask questions during the lectures and stop by my office during my office hours for any questions you have.
• Late homework will not be accepted.

Quiz and exam policy:

• We will have 7-8 quizzes during the course 20-25 minutes long.
• There will be two 1 hour exams. Exam 1 covers chapter 5 and will be given in the end of the week 4. Exam 2 will cover chapter 8 and some parts of chapter 9, it will be given in the week 10. Closed books and closed notes.

Make-up Policy for Exams and Quizzes:

• All students are required to take the exams and quizzes at the scheduled time.
• If an emergency causes you to miss one, you must contact the instructor within 24 hours of the class in order to be able to make it up.
• Make-ups will only be given in the case of illness, family emergency, or another extreme situation and documentation will be needed to verify that the situation warrants a make-up tests.

Grading policy:

Your grade will be based on your performance on the homework, quizzes and exams:

Homework 20%

Quizzes 15%

Exams 20%

Midterm 20%;

Final Exam 25%.

Tentative grading scale:

• A >90%
• 90%>B>80%
• 80%>C>70%
• 70%>D>60%
• F otherwise

Based on the overall performance, the final grade may be curved. Up to 3% of extra credit is possible and will be specified
