Research

I am a professor of physics at Iowa State University and do my research in the field of experimental high energy physics (HEP). 

I study the decays of heavy, short-lived particles, called B mesons, with the BaBar experiment. These B mesons are produced in energetic electron-positron collisions at the Upsilon (4S) resonance (10.6 GeV CMS energy) by the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). In particular, I am interested in differences in the properties of B mesons and their anti-particles B mesons. The two theorists, who predicted such differences won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics.

I am also starting to get involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN. There we study proton-proton collisions at the highest ever-achieved energy. Chances are good that we will observe new particles testing theories such as Supersymmetry and Extra Dimensions.

This spring semester (spring 2012) I teach Physics 221 (Introduction to Classical Physics I).
