Bioinformatics & Computational Biology

I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated from City High School in 1998. I began my research career while still a senior in high school through a wonderful program provided jointly by CHS and the University of Iowa. Through this program I was paired with Dr. Lacy Daniels (now at Texas A & M) in the Department of Microbiology to work on a research project several days a week after school, under supervision by Dr. Daniels' graduate student, Thomas Bair. I assisted in the generation and screening of insertion mutants of attenuated Mycobacterium tuberculosis (the bacterium that causes tuberculosis) and Mycobacterium bovis. I have completed three years of training in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
