The Creature

twas on a bright summers day
while minding my own business that i saw
an ugly and horrible looking creature
all the more villinous 'cause he was so small

knowing the malice of such hideousness
i chased him immediately away
in great disgust for those whose mind
is to ruin such an otherwise fine day

and going back to my contemplation
i just then heard a 'snif' and looked around
i saw the thing with his head hung low
barely controling his little whimpering sound

the creature then with a tear in his eye
was slowly ambling from this place
not knowing which way he could go
to one where he might not be chased

only then did i notice on seeing it
so ready to flee where he's not wanted
as being a frail and harmless beast
for running when so lightly taunted

feeling compassion at seeing the critter
with its little heart all broken
i bid it to return, this time
in a tone more gently spoken

it turned and looked in hopes
that i might really be sincere
then it started off once again
in a gait that i found so dear

i called again and started toward it
it was of a sudden so excited and happy
we sat down and began to talk
it just looked at me sort of misty

it told me all about its life
where't was going and from where'd came
we talked and talked until it told me
what it thought of just everything

i was glad i met one such as he
whose mind was filled with such peace and joys
he showed me so beautiful a love
i bid him to stay with me always

he said he must go but would return
to stay with me for all time
and would share with me all he had
for my treating him so kind

but i replied the greatest treasure i could have
the greatest gift to me you could send
the greatest joy i could ever know
is to see you happy my beautiful little friend

he had ambled away so tearfully
the first time cause i called him ugly
and longing to return he crept off in tears
but this time cause i had made him happy

so, if ever you see a creature
whom you find so horrible or so ugly
remember this story i've told to you
and how your love can make them happy

for there is no creature so little or so vile
there is no one so ugly or so odd
there is none so despicable or so hateful
that he shows not forth the goodness and
joy of his God.
