Guidelines for weekly assignments

 

You will complete twelve weekly assignments eleven of which will be graded. Each graded assignment is worth of 10 points.

General instructions:

Length: 2 pages maximum.     

Margins: Top 1’, Bottom 1’, Left 1’, Right 1’;

Spacing: Double-Spaced;

Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.

 

When analyzing a publication you need to answer three questions: 

  1. What is the main point of an author? Go beyond of what the author is says; try to understand what the author means. You will be given up to 3 points for this part of your analysis.
  2. How does the author argue his/her main point: (a) what arguments does he/she use to build the case and (b) what facts and evidence does he/she use to prove it? You will be given up to 3 points for this part of your analysis.
  3. Critique: (a) are there any logical problems in the author’s reasoning? (b) are there any arguable arguments and facts/evidence in the authors reasoning and (c) how would John Macionis argue/critique the author?  You will be given up to 4 points for this part of your analysis.
