The Sliding House was designed by dRMM in response to the clients' desires to have a place to retire to, to grow food, and to be connected to nature. The entire complex consists of three simple, conventional, rural buildings with a timber frame and wooden shed-like cladding. These three are then connected by a sliding enclosure that creates different internal environments when slid about the axis. At different points in the line, the enclosure can create an open-air environment, a closed space, and frame views, providing a dynamic, adaptable space for the retirees to inhabit.
