AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University has received the 1998 Corporate Friend of Tourism from the Iowa Division of Tourism.

The award was recently presented at the annual Iowa Tourism Conference in Iowa City/Coralville by Nancy Landess, Iowa Division of Tourism administrator, and Rich Harter, Travel Federation of Iowa president and Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau director.

"Iowa State University has dedicated a tremendous amount of resources and staff time to the advancement of tourism in Ames and entire state of Iowa," Landess said. "Attractions including Reiman Gardens and the Farm House Museum are great assets to the Iowa tourism industry."

"Iowa State University is proud to contribute to tourism in Iowa, but we couldn't do with without the excellent support of our university community, our alumni and the Ames Convention and Visitors bureau," said Murray Blackwelder, vice president for external affairs.

Iowa State University was nominated for the award by the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Twenty-one other awards were presented at the three-day conference. Professionals representing several facets of the Iowa tourism industry judged the nominations. Winners were chosen for their local, regional and statewide impact.
