ISU grad and Bank of Hawaii CEO Allan Landon to give Stafford Lecture Oct. 17

AMES, Iowa -- Allan Landon, an Iowa native who is now chairman and chief executive officer of Bank of Hawaii, is the fall 2008 speaker for the Robert Stafford Lecture Series on Banking in Iowa State University's College of Business.

A 1970 graduate of ISU's College of Business who was named to U.S. Banker magazine's All-Star Banking Team for 2008, Landon will discuss several banking topics -- including the current financial crisis facing the industry -- during his 11 a.m. talk on Friday, Oct. 17, in the Gerdin Business Building's Stark Lecture Hall (Room 1148). A 10 a.m. reception in the Cox Dean's Suite (Room 2200, Gerdin) will precede the lecture, which is free and open to the public.

Landon will also discuss how to improve upon our banking environment, how to avoid value destruction and banking in Hawaii during his lecture.

In addition to his current position, he previously served as president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the Bank of Hawaii, which is based in Honolulu and has more than $10 billion in assets and a market value of more than $2.5 billion. He joined the bank in April 2000 as director of risk management.

Prior to the Bank of Hawaii, Landon was chief financial officer of First American Corporation in Nashville, Tenn. He also was a partner with Ernst & Young LLP, where he was employed for 28 years.

He is currently chairman of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.

Landon is the fifth Stafford lecturer at Iowa State. More information on the program is available at http://www.business.iastate.edu/events/stafford.

The Robert Stafford Lecture Series on Banking was established by the College of Business in 2004 and is funded by Ames National Corporation in honor of its 100 years of service to the Ames community. The gift honors Robert Stafford, who was longtime president and chairman of First National Bank, Ames, and Ames National Corporation.
